Online Casino Poker Alliance Outraged over Legislation

15 Oct 2006

It seems outrage is the best word to describe the reaction of millions of online casino poker players across the United States with regards to the recent signing by President George. W. Bush of a ban on online casino wagering. By including this legislation in the SAFE Port Act, Congress and the President bluffed the American people who overwhelmingly oppose federal efforts to ban online casinos poker.

‘Twenty-three million Americans who play the game online will effectively be denied the ability to enjoy this popular form of entertainment, even in the privacy of their own homes. Congress had a real opportunity to create good public policy by licensing, regulating and taxing Internet poker. Yet, they chose prohibition. This decision will prove to be detrimental in the long-run and leaves more than US 4 billion dollars in annual tax revenue on the table,’ said Michael Bolcerek, President of the Poker Players Alliance. With more than 110,000 poker enthusiasts, this advocacy group is a grassroots operation. Online casino fans in America will now have to face severe legal action if they choose to break the law and enjoy a game of online casino poker.

The legislation contains specific exemptions for online casino wagers on horse racing, fantasy sports, and state lotteries. The Poker Players Alliance hopes that Congress will objectively evaluate the skill game of poker and afford it similar treatment. For now, however, for millions of online casino poker fans, as well as other online gambling lovers in America, the virtual doors of these online gaming portals and sites, are closed.
